How Are Measurement Tolerances Used During Activewear Inspection?

Use each approved POM tolerance to assess production variation consistently.
Measurement tolerances define the acceptable production variation from each approved Point of Measurement (POM) in the garment specification. During inspection, measured results should be compared with the approved target and tolerance using the same agreed method and garment condition.
Leggings and bottoms
- Waist and hip
- Front and back rise
- Inseam and garment length
- Thigh and leg opening
- Waistband or elastic dimensions
Tops and sports bras
- Chest or underbust
- Body length
- Strap length
- Elastic dimensions
- Other approved fit-critical POMs
Measure consistently
Use the agreed method, such as laid flat, relaxed, and without stretching the fabric unless the specification states otherwise.
Compare with the specification
Record the measured result against the approved target measurement and its allowed tolerance.
Review deviations correctly
Garments outside the agreed tolerance should be reviewed according to the quality standard and defect classification.
Do not apply one tolerance to every POM
Critical fit points may require tighter control, while less sensitive measurements may allow slightly more production variation. Tolerance also does not replace fit approval: a garment may fall within its measurement tolerance and still require review if overall fit or performance is not acceptable.
